auncia is a visual kei rock band that has been around for three years and have steadily been building a name for themselves in this short period. In the year 2009, their efforts seem to be paying off: they have gone major with Universal Music Japan and will make their first overseas appearance at Anime Expo 2009 in the US this July.

Unlike most young visual kei bands, auncia received much exposure during the first year of their formation in 2006. The same month their activities began, in April, they were interviewed by Cure magazine. A couple months later, they joined the Red List Entertainment label and began the first of a few contributions to omnibus releases, both CD and DVD. Even though their year had already been filled with much activity, it picked up again in September with the release of their first maxi-single, titled Hanairo, holding their first sponsored event in Tokyo, being interviewed by SHOXX magazine, and appeared in a commercial broadcast on TV Saitama. They ended their busy year with an interview with Sports Nippon.

Continuing strong and persistent to make it in the Japanese music industry, auncia began the following year with a SHOXX interview in February and the release of their first mini album, Rabiu, in March. The next month, their song Koi monogatari was used as the ending theme song for MJTV’s program “Visual keiji.” June was an exciting month for the band when they were able to release their mini-album in a few European countries and parts of Asia, including countries Germany, France, Finland, South Korea, and Taiwan, along with the Japanese release of their first one-man live DVD, Dialogue. The middle part of the year was spent with a couple sponsored events in Japan and more interviews, which produced more exposure. The band ended the year strong with their second maxi-single release and a couple one-man lives in Tokyo and Nagoya.

The year 2008 continued in the same fashion as the previous with interviews and live performances, but with a major change on May 1st when auncia decided to leave the Red List Entertainment label and take a shot at being independent under the HEART LINK label. To show that this change was a wise decision, the band’s songs were broadcasted on the San Francisco (USA) internet radio program JSHOXX, quickly followed by the release of their second mini-album ,Syrup, in July. A bit presumptuous, however needed for an international audience, auncia released their best-of album Beauty & Slime throughout the USA. In December, they held their final performance of the year at Fuji Terebi’s 36th New Year’s World Rock Festival.

Thus far, auncia has taken 2009 at a bit of a slower pace by focusing on their fans with various performances throughout Japan. However, in May, they announced through their official website that they signed with Universal Music Japan and will release their major debut single, KeyCase, on August 5th. To the excitement of the band’s international fans, it was announced that auncia will have their first overseas performance at the anime convention Anime Expo in Lost Angeles, California.

When a visual kei band quickly becomes popular as auncia has, it’s exciting to watch them as they continue to grow to see where their music style and the music industry takes them. auncia has shown much talent and much promise; they’re definitely a band worth keeping an eye on.
